The journey to Avalon

Thus did man fall into delusion His ashes flayed on the barren landscape
Now only a hollow castle of rubble
His soul still haunts the courtyard
A beast still ravages the donjon tower
Eating the flesh of stray adventurers 
A lone mage encounters a group of knights
and is annihilated
A ruinous famine plagues the land
A kingdom in peril from dark aberrations 
A lava vein bursts forth from the back stone wall of a hilltop cathedral
engulfing the high priest in magma before pouring out the gothic entrance and down the steps into the village
A panic stricken population run in terror as the gates to hell open into the various corridors and streets
A lava fissure cracks open the ornate fountain in the town square engulfing many towns folk instantly
Mass hysteria reigns supreme
At night the voices of giant monsters can be heard 
The roads are full of dark omens and shrieking terrors  
Evil men with greed in their eyes murder gentile wayfarers
